New York Event: Human Rights Council elections

Tomorrow we will be quizzing representatives from countries seeking election to the UN Human Rights Council.

Do you have any questions for them?

We’re hosting an event in New York with Amnesty International to provide the candidates with an opportunity to present and discuss their pledges and commitments for the term starting 2017.

It will be moderated by Mr Ivan Šimonović – the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, and we’re pleased that representatives from Brazil, Croatia, Guatemala, Hungary, Iraq, Japan, Tunisia, the United Kingdom and the United States have all agreed to put themselves in the hot seat.

(The other candidates – Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, China, Egypt, South Africa, Russia, Cuba and Rwanda – declined or haven’t responded to our invitation to participate in the event.)

If you can’t join us for the event in New York at 3pm Friday 22 July, the event will be streamed by webtv.un.org and we will be collating questions for the participants from twitter.
