This UNGA81 side event will bring together UN experts, States and civil society to examine how TNR and reprisals manifest in practice, clarify applicable human rights standards and responsibilities, and identify concrete measures that States, the UN and other actors can take to prevent violations, protect those at risk and ensure accountability.

Through facilitated dialogue, the event will explore what reparatory justice means in practice for diaspora communities, how the UN resolution and AU frameworks can be translated into concrete, community-responsive action, and where the conversations happening in Africa and those happening in the Americas converge or diverge.

By highlighting best practices and current gaps, this event catalyses collective action for an Africa where environmental, territorial, and digital rights are defended within a framework that upholds fundamental human rights.
