The universality of human rights: Undermined by traditional values?

Wednesday, 10 September from 16h30 to 18h00
Palais des Nations, Geneva, Room XXIV

ISHR, together with ARC International, Article 19 and Association for Progressive Communications, welcomes you to a side event which will explore the State duty to protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms regardless of their political and cultural systems. Its objective is to ensure that the universality of human rights is not undermined at the national level and through initiatives at the UN Human Rights Council. This is especially relevant in the context of Chile, Uruguay and Colombia announcing that they will pursue an important resolution at the current session of the Council affirming that universality extends to non-discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • Nadine Moawad - Association for Progressive Communications
  • Fulata Moyo - World Council of Churches
  • Sunita Kujur - Creating Resources for Empowerment in Action (CREA)
  • Andrew Smith - Article 19
