Co-organised by the Permanent Missions of Germany, Afghanistan, Australia, Chile, Ghana and Morocco in New York and the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) at the margins of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.

National human rights institutions (NHRIs) play a key role in the international human rights system. This side event will provide a platform to discuss the experience and value of A-status NHRI participation in the UN system and to consider the feasibility of extending NHRI participation to other relevant UN bodies and processes.

In this 70th year of the UN, how can NHRI cooperation be deepened to assist in the collective effort for the respect of human rights?

Panelists:

  • Chair of the National Human Rights Commission of Kenya, Ms. Kagwiria Mbogori
  • Chair of the National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, Mr. Tan Sri Hasmy Agam
  • Chair of the National Human Rights Commission of Costa Rica, Ms. Montserrat Caroni

Moderator:

  • Professor Alan Miller, Secretary International Coordinating Committee (ICC)

Speakers will also include Ivan Šimonović, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, as well as high-ranking representatives from NHRIs and permanent missions.
