Women human rights defenders across the world continue to face unique threats as they work in increasingly challenging contexts.

A number of national and regional initiatives have been taken to develop practical solutions to ensure their recognition and strengthen their protection. The adoption of the first ever UN General Assembly resolution on the protection of women human rights defenders in 2013 provides guidance towards this end.
