Other Mechanisms of the Council PDF Print E-mail

Apart from its main mechanism such as the UPR, the special procedures, the Advisory Committee and the Complaint Procedure, the Human Rights Council has established a number of subsidiary bodies. These are all focused on thematic areas of particular concern. They have been maintained or established following the review of all the Commission's mechanisms, including the subsidiary mechanisms of the former Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. These mechanisms now report directly to the Council.  Each of these mechanisms is explained in more detail on the individual sub-pages in this section, which are accessible through the navigation on the left.

The Human Rights Council also functions as the Preparatory Committee for the conference to be held in 2009 on the implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, the outcome of the World Conference Against Racism held in Durban in 2001.
