HURIDOCS launches dynamic tool to search and filter Human Rights Council Resolutions

At the 31st session of the Human Rights Council, HURIDOCS released RightDocs - a dynamic tool to search and filter Human Rights Council Resolutions, making Council related documents accessible to all, faster and more efficiently than ever before.

On February 29 at the 31st session of the Human Rights Council, HURIDOCS released RightDocs - a dynamic tool to search and filter Human Rights Council Resolutions. This tool has made all Council related documents accessible to all, faster and more efficiently than ever before.

RightDocs automatically collects all aspects of the Council’s resolutions, including sponsorships, amendments and subsequent votes. Users can utilise information dynamically - filtering by topic, State, agenda item, session, and date. Additional features will be added based on user feedback.

RightDocs was developed in response to the difficulty involved in searching and utilising Human Rights Council documents - previously requiring costly resources to the exclusion of many human rights defenders and NGOs. In interviews with a number of stakeholders, HURIDOCS found that an overwhelming amount of research was duplicated among local human rights defenders, leading NGOs, and active Member States. Despite exhausting their resources, all stakeholders struggled to find the information they needed to fulfill their missions.

The 31st session of the Council alone included a 'heavy programme of work' with ten panel discussions and 99 reporting being presented.  The documents from all 31 sessions to date add up to a tremendous body of data with huge potential for advocacy to advance human rights across the world, but improving accessibility and transparency required an 'innovative [form] of action.'

With feedback from Universal Rights Group, FORUM ASIA, the International Service for Human Rights, plus more than 15 NGOs and diplomatic missions, RightDocs was developed to specifically address the needs of potential users. RightDocs liberates defenders from previously tedious work, resulting in more effective research, engagement with UN mechanisms, and mission fulfillment. This new level of transparency will strengthen the HRC’s 'promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe'.

RightDocs is freely available to all – civil society, diplomats, researchers, and anyone interested in learning more about the United Nations Human Rights Council’s procedures, documents, and resolutions. New features will be added based on user feedback. SIgn up for early access, get results, and inform innovation at right-docs.org.
