Advocacy and coordination forms a part of ISHR’s distinctive mission as set out in our Strategic and Action Plan 2006-2009.
ISHR promotes the development of international and regional law and mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights, and the effective protection of human rights defenders.
We carry out advocacy and develops policy on issues that affect human rights protection systems and the work of human rights defenders, where there is an identified need and our participation adds value.
We work to improve international, regional and national mechanisms for the protection of human rights defenders.
We also collaborate with our partners, especially other human rights NGOs, in advocating for a better and more effective system for the promotion and protection of human rights, in particular in the context of proposals for reform of the United Nations human rights machinery. ISHR has particular expertise in issues related to the effective functioning of human rights mechanisms and procedures.
