In partnership with the Inter-American Commission and the American University, ISHR has organised training courses on the Inter-American and the international systems for the protection of human rights.
The course runs in parallel to the October session of the Inter-American Commission and includes defenders from Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru. Held over a two-week period, it is designed for experienced defenders, who have already accessed the Inter-American or international system, and need more technical training and advice. It offers an opportunity to assist to the hearings of the Inter-American Commission, meet Commissioners and experts of the Inter-American Commission and of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and to network with other defenders in the region.
At the moment, ISHR is developing its strategy for Latin America and assessing whether the course will continue in its present form.
