International Service for Human Rights

At the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), ISHR participated in discussions on the Commission’s development of a special procedure for the protection of human rights defenders, the Defenders Unit, which was created in 2001.

ISHR also  invited the Unit to take part in meetings with defenders and facilitated a number of meetings between the Defenders Unit, the African Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on human rights defenders. The main objective of these meetings between regional and international mechanisms was to share experiences and develop common strategies.
