Training in Geneva PDF Print E-mail

ISHR organises training courses in Geneva on the international human rights system three times a year, usually in March, May and September.

The courses are designed for human rights defenders from around the world that are using or want to use the system. The training programmes aim to reinforce the capacity of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) by developing representatives' necessary knowledge and skills to effectively and strategically engage with the United Nations (UN).

The courses also enable participants to network with important actors in the international human rights scene, such as special procedures mandate holders, government representatives, UN agencies, and international and regional NGOs.

Advanced Geneva Training Course (in English and in French)

The Advanced Geneva Training Course, held in English (AGTC-English) and in French (AGTC-French), focuses on the Human Rights Council, its procedures and mechanisms. The course is tailored for experienced representatives of NGOs and NHRIs that have been working in human rights for more than five years. The training in French is primarily aimed at human rights defenders from French-speaking countries in Africa. The course is generally run in parallel to a regular session of the Human Rights Council, in order to give participants immediate practical experience to complement theoretical knowledge. Find out more about the course here.

Geneva Training Course on Treaty Monitoring Bodies

The Geneva Training Course on Treaty Monitoring Bodies (GTC-TMB), conducted in English, provides participants with knowledge about treaty monitoring committees and the role of civil society within these bodies. Running parallel to the sessions of the Committee against Torture (CAT) and the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), it is designed for experienced human rights defenders from around the world who use or plan to use the treaty bodies in their work. Find out more about the course here.
