CERD
|
The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is one of the ten United Nations treaty bodies and oversees the implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD). CERD was the first treaty body to be established, due in part to the belief that implementation of the international convention would be difficult without a committee monitoring it. This set the precedent for the formation of all the other treaty bodies. CERD consists of 18 experts who meet twice a year.
