The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women will hold its 45th session in Geneva from 18 January to 5 February 2010. The Committee will examine the reports of Botswana, Egypt, Malawi, Netherlands, Panama, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine and Uzbekistan over the course of two weeks, as well as consider individual communications under its Optional Protocol in closed session. As is customary for CEDAW, it will also hold a formal dialogue with NGOs and with national human rights institutions on the situation of women’s rights in the States under review on 18 January and 25 January. The current session is also notable for an initiative to hold an informal meeting with NGOs to discuss their interactions with the Committee, which will take place at 3-5 pm on 19 January.
