Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights sessions begin in Geneva PDF Print E-mail

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will meet from 4 to 22 May 2009 in Geneva, beginning on the same day as the 5th session of the UPR. It will be a demanding session for the Committee, which has to deal with the periodic examinations of Brazil, the United Kingdom, Australia and Cyprus, as well as the initial report of Cambodia. The session is notable for the large amount of submissions by NGOs, including at least thirty reports in the case of the United Kingdom, thirteen in the case of Brazil and eight for Australia. The Committee will also meet with NGOs and State Parties on the afternoon of 5 May, and will continue to develop its draft general comments on the right to take part in cultural life and on the principle of non-discrimination.

The schedule for and more information about the session of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights is available on the OHCHR website.
