Elections for the CRC take place in New York |

The conference of the parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child met in New York on 16 December 2008 to elect nine members to the Committee on the Rights of the Child by secret ballot. A total of 22 candidates were competing for the high number of nine seats. This included three current members of the Committee whose term was to expire in February 2009 - Mr Jean Zermatten (Switzerland, later elected by 125 votes), Ms Yanhee Lee (Republic of Korea, 121 votes), and Mr Awich Pollar (Uganda, 118).
