A first: joint mission to Togo by Special Rapporteurs on Human Rights Defenders |

From 28 July to 4 August 2008, for the first time, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders and the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders in Africa visited Togo to evaluate the situation of human rights defenders in the country.
According to the Rapporteurs “a conducive environment in which human rights defenders can operate has progressively emerged.” However, both experts highlighted that human rights defenders still face many challenges.
